Decoding Your Home: Insights into Your State of Mind
When we walk through our homes, every corner, every item, every bit of clutter has a story to tell. Feng shui, the ancient Chinese practice of harmonizing individuals with their surrounding environment, is based on the idea that our homes are a mirror of our energy and our inner state. It ties a person's destiny to their environment - a happy home equals a happy outlook. It transforms our thoughts into tangible realities in the 3D world.
Our thoughts, the stories we tell ourselves, become our truths, shaping our perception of the world around us. When we aim to change and manifest something new, our current thoughts and truths, reflected within our space, can keep us stuck. By understanding how our thoughts manifest in our environments, we can intentionally transform our spaces to evoke the emotions we desire. These visible changes create a profound impact on our inner world by providing tangible evidence for our new truths. The transformation happens when are able recognize our problems pointed out in our environments.
Listening to Our Homes
Our homes reflect our mindset, and we can learn a lot by simply paying attention to what it is telling us. When we meditate, we center ourselves, helping us detach from our egos and identify internal imbalances. It's during these moments that we might notice our repetitive thoughts, such as:
"I just don't feel comfortable in my bedroom and don't like being there alone."
"I feel like I'm up against the wall."
"I feel overwhelmed; everything is coming at me."
"I can't get a handle on life."
These statements have underlying issues reflected in our environments. Once our awareness is heightened, we become attuned to the cues within our immediate surroundings, and recognizing how deeply they impact our daily lives. There are definite actions and intentions we can implement in our space to help influence the opportunities, relationships, finances, and success we can attract.
Insights into Inner States
Our current life circumstances may unconsciously influence how our surroundings appear. Conversely, an unbalanced environment can contribute to increasing emotional challenges. For instance, I had a client who bought new knobs for her cabinets, but they didn't fit. Reluctant to use the old ones again, she dealt with daily struggles of opening the cabinets for over a year. This constant awkwardness of uneasily grasping things started to affect other areas of her life, leading her to frequently say she couldn't get a handle on her life.
After acknowledging these statements and delving deep to uncover the underlying cause, we often find fear at the root. Fear immobilizes us from taking action and physically showing up in our homes.
Identifying Core Issues and Their Manifestations
Fear of Success & Low Self-Esteem
How it Shows Up
✨ Artwork or mirrors that are unintentionally hung too high, leaving you subconsciously feeling like you can never measure up, are indications of low self-esteem and a fear of success.
Solution
✨ As a rule of thumb, hang artwork and mirrors at 60” from center to floor. This simple adjustment can set realistic expectations for yourself, bringing everything to eye level—a fresh start for your self-esteem.
Fear of Failure
How it Shows Up
✨ Piles of procrastination and avoidance in the form of paperwork, clothes, or unfinished to-do lists.
Solution
✨ Focus on being confident with your decisions as you choose one task easy or hard on your to-do list. Moving one step towards progress builds confidence to tackle the next.
✨ Maintaining organization and minimizing clutter is crucial for enhancing focus on your strengths and achievements. Discover simple strategies to prevent clutter from accumulating. Use baskets or closet organizers for items that cannot be immediately sorted. By doing so, you can avoid being surrounded by clutter and maintain control over your environment.
Fear of Uncertainty
How it Shows Up
✨ When there's a tendency to surround yourself with excessive belongings, resulting in stockpiling and hoarding, you are battling with a fear of the unknown and seeking to maintain control. -ie. Covid toilet paper - gave you certainty and control when you didn’t know what else to trust.
Solution:
✨ Remind yourself that true security can't be bought. Hoarding communicates to your subconscious that you are in need, potentially becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Fear of Commitment
How it Shows Up
✨ Delaying decisions like hanging artwork, selecting paint colors, or unpacking boxes, along with procrastinating on any big ticket purchases are indications that you are hesitant to commit.
Solution
✨ You can start to combat your fear of commitment by making a list of only the things you don’t want in your home (the color red, southwest decor, clutter, etc.) This creates boundaries while opening possibilities to follow your instincts.
✨ Hang those pictures
Tip. Use tape to mark out the picture placement before committing to making any holes in the wall.
Here's a rewrite in your voice:
Remember, you can always patch up the hole and repaint the wall. Embrace what might initially seem like a mistake as a step toward discovering what works best—think of it as turning a mishap into a "Happy Accident."
✨ Create a budget you can afford and make your choices when you are in a good mood- not stressed or under pressure.
Fear of Change
How it Shows Up
✨ Outdated decor, no fresh updates.
Solution
✨ To begin the process of transforming, start by moving your bed, desk or sofa. A new perspective from these main pieces of furniture can help you literally and figuratively see things differently. Make sure you don’t have your back to the door. You want to feel empowered and be able to see who is entering, not vulnerable or easily startled.
✨ If this also seems too much, maybe start smaller with changing the curtains, pillow covers or adjusting a bookshelf. Small elements might also help you to feel the energy shift and empower you to see the space in a new way
Fear of Losing Control
How it Shows Up
✨ A meticulously ordered home where anxiety lurks at the mere hint of chaos, disorder, or a breach of house rules.
✨ Aim for a looser, forgiving home. When things get messy, practice taking five long exhales to help you "go with the flow." Embrace spontaneity in your decor with items like baskets or organizational trays on surfaces, keeping essentials organized yet within sight.
