Feeling Stuck in Your Space? Here’s How a Pro Can Help You Unlock New Opportunities

When we hide the cracks in our space, we unknowingly block the flow of possibility. A home in harmony with our intentions invites the energy we need to grow, thrive, and welcome new opportunities.

Ever start a home project thinking it’ll be simple, only to realize halfway through that you’re in over your head?

We trust professionals with so many important aspects of our lives—our health, our finances, even buying a home. So why is it that when it comes to designing the space we live in every single day, we often think we can do it ourselves?

A recent client of mine knows this feeling all too well. She had set out to refresh her space, convinced that she could tackle it on her own. But as she walked me through her kitchen, she admitted something surprising—every time she stepped into one corner of the room, her energy would drop. She felt anxious, frustrated, but couldn’t quite pinpoint why. So, she avoided that corner altogether.

I see this all the time. In Feng Shui, our home is a reflection of our inner world. The spaces we avoid, the projects we leave unfinished, and the clutter we push into closets—it all represents something deeper. My client’s cutting board, for example, wasn’t just covering an imperfect countertop. It was a physical manifestation of something she wasn’t ready to face.

When she explained how the countertop had air bubbles and visible imperfections, it became clear that it wasn’t just about the flaw in the surface. The cutting board, placed strategically to hide the mistake, was a quick fix, a way of avoiding the discomfort of confronting something that didn’t meet her expectations. In that moment, it became more than just a kitchen tool—it became a symbol of avoidance, a pattern of pushing things out of sight rather than dealing with them head-on.

Every time she walked into that corner of her kitchen, the energy felt heavy and blocked. The cutting board wasn’t just there to cover up the countertop—it was a reminder of the things she wasn’t ready to confront. And just like the countertop, there were other parts of her life she hadn’t fully faced yet—the imperfections, the missed opportunities, the things she wanted to hide.

Energy plays a powerful role in our lives. The energy we carry inside is reflected in our environment. Covering up a mistake, even in something as simple as a countertop, creates stagnation that can show up in bigger areas of our lives—whether in relationships, career opportunities, or personal growth. When we hide things in our space, we unintentionally mirror that avoidance in our world.

The energy of avoidance? It creates stagnation.

She wanted new opportunities in her career and love life, but her space was sending a different message: "I’m not ready. I’m not open." And in that energy of avoidance, it became harder for new possibilities to enter.

I see this all the time. Whether we cover up a flaw, avoid a particular space, or just leave things unfinished, we’re not just ignoring the surface-level problem. It’s a reflection of something deeper—an unaddressed issue that can affect our lives in bigger ways. It’s easy to think we can manage it on our own, but sometimes the energy in our space gets so stuck that it’s hard to move forward.

That’s where working with a professional designer can make a huge difference. A designer doesn’t just help you create a beautiful space—they help clear the blocks, both physical and energetic, that might be holding you back. Sometimes, an outside perspective is exactly what we need to identify the things that are preventing us from moving forward and invite in the energy we need to embrace new possibilities.

I recently wrote about 5 Reasons Why Hiring an Interior Designer Saves You Time, Money, and Stress, because the truth is, DIY design often ends up being more expensive, more frustrating, and more time-consuming than people expect. As my client discovered, tackling things on your own can create stagnation—both physically and energetically. A home isn’t just about how it looks—it’s about how it makes you feel. And when your space is aligned with your goals, it becomes a powerful tool for transformation.

After we finished working together, it wasn’t long before things started shifting. Within weeks, my client found herself receiving new job opportunities that had previously felt out of reach. It was amazing to watch the change unfold, not just in her space, but in her life. When the energy in your home is aligned with your intentions, it opens up the flow of possibility, and things start to fall into place.
